WHEELING, W.Va. — A Wetzel County couple faces up to 50 years in prison for stealing money from an elderly woman and using it to purchase a beach house.
A federal jury convicted Timothy Summers, 50, and his wife, Lea Ann Summers, 52, of Proctor, last Friday on charges of mail fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, securities fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property.
U.S. Attorney Bill Ihlenfeld said the couple liquidated a significant portion of a 90-year-old woman’s shares of PPG Industries stock. They used the money to buy a beach house on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
The Summers were convicted after a three-day trial in Wheeling Federal Court. They will be sentenced at a later date.
