CLARKSBURG, W. Va. — A Lewis County man was sentenced in federal court to serve time in prison after pleading guilty to his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute painkillers through the office of Dr. Edita Milan.
Shane Brantley, 38, will spend an additional 8 months in prison to the 51 month sentence he is currently serving for unlawful possession of a firearm.
The additional time comes after he entered a guilty plea in June to one count of conspiracy to use the DEA registration number of another person.
An investigation conducted by the Greater Harrison County Drug Task Force revealed Brantley attempted to use Dr. Milan’s DEA registration number to obtain oxycodone, hydrocodone and aplrazolam.
The investigation began with citizen complaints surrounding prescription writing practices in Dr. Milan’s Bridgeport, office.
Several other codefendants have already pleaded guilty to their involvement.
Milan is scheduled for trial on November 5.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John Parr prosecuted the case on behalf of the government and U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley issued Brantley’s sentence.
