Federal inmate charged with witness tampering by grand jury

ELKINS, W. Va. — A federal inmate has been charged with witness tampering while incarcerated.
Tobias Lynn Bennett, 41, of Buckhannon was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of aiding and abetting along with witness tampering.
An investigation conducted by the West Virginia State Police revealed Bennett discouraged two potential witnesses from testifying at a fellow inmate’s sentencing hearing, while serving time at Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
Bennett faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each charge.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
