State Police identifies victims in fatal Barbour County accident

PHILIPPI, W. Va. — The West Virginia State Police has identified the three victims of a Tuesday night accident involving a fire engine in Barbour County.

Joseph Kuzinar, 75, Linda Diane Kuzinar, 65, and Jessica L. Paczek, 38, all from Morgantown, were travelling in a 2010 Honda CR-V and attempted to pull out onto U.S. Route 250 from 4-H Camp Road near Philippi.

According to witness statements provided to the State Police, at around 9 p.m., the vehicle went into the path of a City of Philippi fire engine which was responding to a structure fire southbound on 250 with lights and siren activated.

The truck was unable to stop before colliding in a T-bone fashion with the Honda. The three passengers in the SUV died from injuries sustained during the crash.

Five members of the Philippi Fire Department were occupants of the involved fire engine and were taken to Broadus Hospital for evaluation and later released.

The ongoing investigation into the accident is being conducted by Cpl C. B. Shrader of the State Police Philippi Detachment.
