Northern Panhandle: Tyler Consolidated’s Ryan Walton on HS Sportsline

SISTERSVILLE, W.Va. — Tyler Consolidated (5-2) football coach Ryan Walton was a guest on this week’s MetroNews High School Sportsline as his team faces Magnolia (2-5).

The Knights enter this week having won three straight games with wins over Calhoun County, Buffalo and South Harrison.

“We’ve been fortunate and we’ve had the ball bounce our way a couple of times,” Walton said.

The Knights, though, have a significant challenge this week against a Magnolia team that has four of its five losses by a combined nine points.

“Magnolia plays a pretty challenging schedule and has been in every game,” Walton said. “They’re athletic, fast and have a quarterback that can throw the ball. Their offensive line sticks out to me – they look like they could be skill-kids in the backfield.”

Regardless of Friday’s outcome, Tyler Consolidated has put itself into position to get into the playoffs with other remaining games against Valley Wetzel and Oak Glen. The Knights entered this week ranked No. 8 in Class A.

“Our goal was definitely to get back in the playoff picture,” he said. “We’re going one week at a time and we put a check-mark on the board every time we get a win. Right now we’re sitting better than we were last year, but the kids want more.”

The complete interview with Walton is posted above.
