MetroNews High School Football Power Rankings: Week 10

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The MetroNews high school football power rankings are voted upon weekly by a panel of 25 radio broadcasters and sports writers across West Virginia. The rankings include season record, total points and first-place votes in parenthesis.

Notes: Capital made up for that unexpected off-week by scoring 84 first-half points in a 91-14 win over Nitro. Capital quarterback Tyrhee Pratt finished 5 of 7 passing for 178 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
2 MARTINSBURG (8-1) 222 (3)

Notes: The Bulldogs led 17-12 at the break against Jefferson and pulled away in the second stanza, scoring 41 straight points overall. Martinsburg finished with 347 total yards in the game — it was the Bulldogs’ 41st straight win against a West Virginia opponent.
3 CABELL MIDLAND (8-1) 179

Notes: The Knights leapfrog Point Pleasant after an impressive 28-point win over rival Spring Valley. Cabell Midland running back Alex Childers finished with 170 yards on the ground in the win, eclipsing the 1,400 yard mark on the season. He scored one rushing touchdown added another receiving touchdown for the Knights. Caperton Humphrey added 94 yards on the ground and three touchdowns as well in the win. The lone loss for Cabell Midland came by just a touchdown to No. 1 Capital.
4 POINT PLEASANT (9-0) 176

Notes: Point Pleasant rolled Shady Spring 64-0 to complete its regular season. The Big Blacks scored more points offensively in that one game than they have given up all year defensively (52). Point Pleasant running back Cody Mitchell rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns in the win, while quarterback Aden Yates added 56 yards through the air and a touchdown. Yates also returned an interception 32 yards for another score. Point Pleasant drops a spot by no fault of its own, but the Big Blacks will certainly have every opportunity to keep proving themselves in the postseason.
5 SOUTH CHARLESTON (8-1) 163

Notes: South Charleston quarterback Kentre Grier threw for 359 yards and five touchdowns, to go along with another rushing touchdown in the win over Riverside. A significant test is set for this week against Huntington.
6 UNIVERSITY (8-1) 135

Notes: University received a boost against Preston as sophomore fullback Isaiah Utt returned from injury (injured in week two), adding 96 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries in the win. A high playoff seed is on the line this week as the Hawks face Morgantown in the MoHawk Bowl to close out the regular season.
7 SPRING VALLEY (7-2) 51

Notes: Spring Valley hung with Cabell Midland for over a half before the Knights were able to pull away. It’s a bye this week for the Timberwolves before a big game at Hurricane to close out the regular season next week.

Notes: Huntington has won two straight since falling to Capital 28-25 on October 3rd. The Highlanders could essentially clinch a playoff spot with a win over South Charleston this week.

Notes: A win for Parkersburg South over Wheeling Park would go a long way to hosting a playoff game. Wheeling Park is fresh off of a loss to Steubenville (OH) 42-21.

Notes: Hurricane jumps into the rankings for the first time this year after winning three straight games. The two losses for Hurricane this year have come to Huntington (37-6) and Cabell Midland (56-31). Tough games remain for the Redskins to close out the season, home dates against Capital and then Spring Valley.
