Car chase involving State Trooper results in arrest of Calhoun County man

GLENVILLE, W. Va. — A Grantsville man has been arrested after a chase involving a State Trooper.

Gary Ackley, 29, is charged with third offense DUI, fleeing while DUI and fleeing with reckless disregard. Additional charges may be filed as well.

Senior Trooper K. J. Varner observed Ackely fire a rifle from inside his vehicle while parked alongside Tanner Creek Road in Gilmer County.

When Varner pulled his cruiser behind Ackley’s vehicle to investigate, Ackley fled.

The pursuit occurred along Tanner Creek Road and Route 5 West, until Ackely stopped on Bull River Road in Calhoun County, where he was apprehended.
