Harrison County man sentenced in federal court after unlawfully possessing firearm

CLARKSBURG, W. Va. — A Harrison County man has been sentenced in federal court for unlawfully possessing a weapon.
Petrus Hawkins, 35, of Clarksburg, will spend 46 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm in June 2014.
In June 2013, Hawkins was discovered with the .45 caliber pistol during a traffic stop by the Morgantown Police Department. He was previously convicted in March 2009 of attempting to possess with intent to distribute marijuana near the Gilmer County High School Football Field in Glenville by a federal court.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Morgan prosecuted the case on behalf of the government and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation.
U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided.
