Elkview man faces attempted murder charge after domestic dispute

ELKVIEW, W.Va., — An attempted murder charge was filed against 32-year-old Joshua Eugene Randolph after a domestic dispute escalated Thursday, Oct. 30 at a residence on Jordan Creek Road.

Joshua Randolph was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

According to Cpl. Brian Humphreys, spokesman for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, when deputies arrived on the scene, they found the victim, Randolph’s girlfriend, with marks on her face and evidence that there had been a physical altercation.

“Her story was that Mr. Randolph had taken a cord during a fight they were having and wrapped the cord around her neck and around her mouth and started pulling on either side to try to strangle her,” said Humphreys.

According to the report, the victim had to escape to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

“When she was gathering her clothes to leave, he stopped her from being able to call 911, took her phone from her and started chasing her around the house.”

The extent of the victim’s injuries were not released.  But, a domestic victim advocate will share resources available to the victim.

“That would be make sure she understands options as far as counseling go, medical attention, if there’s any assistance needed along those lines, that she receive that.”

Deputies found the suspect walking from the home when they arrived on the scene.  He was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding, both felonies.  Randolph was later arraigned on the charges, then taken to South Central Regional Jail in lieu of bond.
