Deputy loses job after smelling of alcohol

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Monongalia County Sheriff Al Kisner said a deputy made an error in judgment by coming to work under the influence of alcohol following the WVU-TCU football game Nov. 1.

Kisner fired the deputy Wednesday after tests results came back.

The deputy had not been a member of the force for very long, he was in the 10th month of his 12-month probationary period according to the sheriff.

Kisner said the deputy was off-duty when he went to the Mountaineer game and tailgated with friends. He reported to work at 11 p.m. Saturday where fellow deputies noticed he smelled of alcohol. A supervisor was then notified.

The deputy was initially placed on administrative leave.

Kisner would not release the now former deputy’s name.
