CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A Jefferson County man allegedly killed his wife before shooting himself late Friday night.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies said Harold Stambaugh survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound and was hospitalized Saturday. His wife, Victoria Stambaugh, was found dead. She had been shot multiple times in the couple’s home in Patrick Henry Estates near Charles Town. Harold Stambaugh was charged with murder.

Investigators said they believed alcohol may have been involved. The couple was also in the midst of a divorce.

Harold Stambaugh was in critical condition Saturday at Inova Fairfax hospital in Virginia. Deputies said he would be arraigned after his release.
