CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper says he expects to see some changes in the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office by the person chosen to be the next prosecutor during a Monday morning meeting.
“I start out with integrity, experience and frankly, maturity,” Carper said.
It’s up to the commission to choose a permanent replacement for former prosecutor Mark Plants who served his last day in office last week. He was removed by a three-judge panel for failure to do the job he was elected to do.
The county commission will interview five Republicans in Monday’s meeting including temporary prosecutor Chuck Miller, former assistant prosecutor Don Morris, state Attorney General lawyers Marty Wright and Chris Dodrill, and Charleston attorney Mark Browning.
Carper said he anticipates a final decision Monday. He said conducting the meeting in public creates some accountability from the person chosen.
“We can hold whoever gets that office to everything from budgeting, running the office differently than it has been run and frankly, I expect to see some changes,” Carper said.
