Former U.S. Forest Service employee charged with theft of government money

MARTINSBURG, W. Va. — A former employee of the federal government has been charged with the theft of funds.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment Wednesday charging former U.S. Forest Service employee Kwaku A. Akomah, 40, of Fairmont with stealing government money.

An investigation conducted by his former employer revealed Akomah made repeated unauthorized personal purchases, including the use of a government issued fuel card to procure more than $1,000 in gasoline for his personal vehicle.

Akomah is charged with two counts of theft of government money and faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count, if convicted.
