MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The record snowstorm in the Buffalo, New York area forced West Virginia University Wednesday to cancel a bus trip set for Thursday for students who wanted to attend funeral services for WVU freshman Nolan Burch.
The Buffalo-area picked up five feet of snow Tuesday and it was snowing again Wednesday. The university said the Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until early Friday morning. WVU urged any students planning to drive to Buffalo themselves to use extreme caution.
Burch, 18, died last week after an alcohol-related incident at a fraternity house on WVU’s downtown campus. Morgantown police continue to investigate his death.
WVU did announce Wednesday afternoon Trinity Episcopal Church on Willey Street in Morgantown would host a memorial service in celebration of Burch’s life at 10 a.m. Thursday. WVU will hold a bell-ringing ceremony in memory of Burch after students return from their Thanksgiving break.
