One dead after mobile home catches fire in Upshur County

UPSHUR COUNTY, W. Va. — A man was found dead after a fire destroyed his mobile home in a rural area near Hodgesville.

Emergency crews contacted the West Virginia State Police around 3 p.m. Wednesday after they arrived at 226 New Dawn Road and found the double wide trailer in ashes and no remaining flames.

They were able to locate some human remains.

Troopers interviewed family members at the scene and determined the man lived alone and was last seen Tuesday afternoon.

There were no neighbors close to where the trailer was located off of Hackers Creek Road.

The State Police and the State Fire Marshal’s Office will both conduct investigation into the cause of the fire.
