Huggins: Keydets’ uptempo style was good exposure for West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s 103-72 victory over VMI looked easy at the end, but the Keydets led 19-16 after nine minutes.

“Coach got on us pretty good and our senior leaders got on the team as well,” said point guard Juwan Staten. “We’re realizing we’ve got to bring it every game.”

The Mountaineers (6-0) brought it for the rest of the game, beginning with a 37-16 run to end the half. VMI’s affinity for playing fast fed right into West Virginia’s pressing defense.

“The more styles that we see, the more it helps us,” Huggins said.
