One dead, one in custody in Nicholas shooting

NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. — A Nicholas County man was charged with murder Tuesday for the shooting death of a Richwood man.

Deputies with the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department said Kermit Ivan Hammonds, 61, of Leivasy, had been arguing with Jerry Dale Harlow, 48, of Richwood, in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

Hammonds is accused of shooting Harlow with a rifle during that fight. Harlow died from his injuries.

It happened at Hammonds’ home on Grassy Creek Road.

No other details were available as the investigation continued on Tuesday afternoon.
