WVU extends due diligence agreement in purchasing Mountain State campus

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — West Virginia University did not decide to purchase Mountain State University but did decide to continue entertaining the idea.

According to university officials, during a meeting Friday, they extended the due diligence agreement to explore acquiring the Beckley campus until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 22.

This allows WVU to continue its analysis of academic possibilities and economic factors associated with acquiring an additional campus. At its meeting today, the WVU Board of Governors was updated on the status of the due diligence undertaken by the University to date.

The MSU campus, currently occupied by the University of Charleston’s Beckley program, is to be sold under a proposed court settlement. The proposal, reached this past summer, would settle 400 individual suits that were filed along with at least two class action suits when MSU lost its accreditation a few years ago.
