Suspect arrested in Kanawha County stabbing

CHESAPEAKE, W. Va. — A Kanawha County man is in the hospital after being stabbed multiple times early Sunday morning.

According to authorities, a witness identified the suspect as Daniel Wayne Cummings, 25, who was later found on MacCorkle Ave. and arrested.

The incident happed at a residence owned by Cummings’ grandmother in Chesapeake along Venable Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police found the victim, James Willis, lying on the floor and covered in blood from multiple stab wounds.

Willis’ condition is under evaluation after being taken to Charleston Area Medical Center.

There is not a clear motive for the crime, but witness reports indicate the two are cousins and it was allegedly a feud over family matters.

Cummings is charged with malicious assault, wounding and battery.

He was taken to CAMC before he was taken to South Central Regional Jail to treat lacerations on his right hand.
