Candidate files to challenge Charleston Mayor Jones in upcoming primary

CHARLESTON, W. Va. — Charleston Mayor Danny Jones will face a challenger in next year’s primary election.

Republican Josh Scott, 33, filed his candidacy to run for the office on Friday, the deadline for next year’s election.

“Now that the filing period is over I will be meeting with my campaign and finance managers,” Scott wrote in a statement released on his campaign website. “We will begin reaching out to those who are like minded that believe in responsible government spending and efficient city management. We will be forming our team to decide the city’s future.”

Scott, a native of Meadow Bridge in Fayette County, is a marine veteran who served in Iraq, currently works for Frontier Communications and lists no prior political experience on his website.

He will challenge three-term Republican mayor Jones, who announced he would run for a final term back in November.

As of Friday afternoon, no other candidates had filed to run for mayor.
