CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Business & Industry Council hosted a large crowd Tuesday at its pre-legislative conference in Charleston.
BIC Chairman Chris Hamilton said he noticed the optimism in the room when considering what happened during the recent election.
“There’s a mood, a mood, that we’re kind of resetting our legislative process. We expect it will be more business-like, more goal-oriented,” Hamilton said.
Those at the conference heard from U.S. Senator-elect Shelley Moore Capito, soon-to-be House of Delegates Speaker Tim Armstead and nominated Senate president Bill Cole among others.
“You have people with strong business backgrounds in leadership positions,” Hamilton said. “It’s healthy and beneficial that we go through that reset with an eye toward visiting and revisiting some of those programs that we believe we can be better at.”
Hamilton said the new leaders want to take a fresh look at what kind of changes can be made to help the business climate without sacrificing “any environmental or protection aspects of those programs.”
