Flags at half-staff Wednesday for retired judge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State flags will fly at half-staff Wednesday at both the state capitol and state-owned buildings in Putnam County in honor of the life and service of former Putnam County Circuit Judge O.C. Spaulding.

Spaulding took his own life last week, he’d been suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease, which forced his retirement.

“Judge Spaulding was one of our state’s most devoted and respected public servants whose commitment and tireless dedication made him an invaluable resource in the West Virginia legal system,” Gov. Tomblin said in a news release. “Joanne and I extend our sincere sympathies to his family and many friends during this difficult time.”

A service for Spaulding is scheduled for Wednesday.
