WVU purchase of Mountain State University property still possible

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University is still interested in the possible purchase of the Mountain State University campus in Beckley according to WVU Board of Governors Chairman Jim Dailey.

The BOG met in Morgantown Friday. WVU remains in a due diligence agreement with MSU about the possible acquisition. The agreement has been extended once and is currently set to expire next Monday, Dec. 22.

Dailey said Friday he expects a decision on the property in the near future. He said it would open up opportunities to southern West Virginia residents.

Mountain State lost its accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission in 2012 and dozens of lawsuits from students followed. Under a court settlement, money from the selling of the property goes into a fund that will be distributed to the plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit.
