UPDATE: name released in Coopers Rock I-68 crash

UPDATE:  Police in Preston County have released the name of the person killed Friday night near Morgantown in a wreck on Interstate 68.

Investigators said 22-year-old Eric Schaetzle of Cherry Hill, New Jersey was in one of vehicles that was part of a chain reaction crash near the Coopers Rock exit.

 

COOPERS ROCK, W.Va. — One person was killed and several others injured in a chain-reaction accident Friday night on Interstate 68 in Preston County near the Monongalia County line.

The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the Coopers Rock exit and closed both east and westbound lanes of the interstate for several hours, creating a several mile-long traffic backup.

Authorities in the Preston County sheriff’s office said the initial wreck was caused by debris in the roadway.

The name of the victim has not been released.
