FCI Hazelton inmate convicted, sentenced after assaulting officer

CLARKSBURG, W. Va. — An inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution at Hazelton has been convicted and sentenced for assaulting a correctional officer.

Carlos Lupercio, 30, pleaded guilty Tuesday to striking the officer in the head and torso, as well as jumping on his back during a dispute back in July.

He has been sentenced to an additional 24 months in prison on one count of Assault of a Correctional Officer Resulting in Injury.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Special Investigative Services Unit at FCI Hazelton are led the investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, while U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided.
