Crash involving cruiser sends five to hospital

BRANCHLAND, W.Va.– Five people, including a Lincoln County deputy and two children, were hospitalized after an accident involving a Sheriff’s Department cruiser Friday evening.

The deputy was speeding to the scene of a shooting in the Harts community with his k-9. State Police say as he went to pass a motorist on Route 10 in the Branchland community, the vehicle tried to get out of the way, but instead hit the cruiser causing both vehicles to crash.

There were two adults and two children in the vehicle. They had to be cut out of the wreckage. The two children were transported to the hospital via helicopter. The two adults and deputy were taken there by ambulance. Emergency crews on the seen sought a third helicopter transport, but the chopper was headed to the shooting scene.

Emergency officials say all of those involved in the wreck were conscious and alert when transported. The K-9 was not injured.
