One arrested after I-64 chase through three counties

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Traffic was moving again on Interstate 64 west in Cabell County before 12 p.m. Sunday after being closed, earlier in the day, following a chase involving a stolen vehicle from Kanawha County, according to Cabell County emergency officials.

Charleston Police said a car, a white Chevrolet Lumina, was taken from the CVS Pharmacy in Charleston’s Kanawha City around 10 a.m. Sunday when a man went into the store to pick up a prescription and left the vehicle running with his mother, age 93, inside of it.

InvestigatorsĀ said the woman was later found a few blocks from the store where the suspect had let her out without injury.

After that dropoff, the suspect got onto Interstate 64 west prompting a chase that, at times, topped 100 miles per hour through Kanawha, Putnam and Cabell counties.

Several different law enforcement agencies were involved in the chase including the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the Milton Police Department, the Barboursville Police Department, the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department and the Huntington Police Department.

Law enforcement officers used road spikes to slow down the vehicle near Huntington. It came to a stop near the Hal Greer Boulevard exit and one person was taken into custody, emergency officials in Cabell County confirmed.

The suspect, Jessie Doyle, 38, of Akron, Ohio, was charged with obstruction and fleeing in Cabell County, but will likely face additional charges in both Kanawha County and Putnam County.
