Harrison County doctor convicted of federal drug crimes now facing lawsuits

CLARKSBURG, W. Va. — A former Harrison County doctor who pleaded no contest to her involvement in a prescription painkiller distribution ring is now up against lawsuits from the estates of three former patients.

Dr. Edita Milan, 75, of Fairmont, faces claims of medical malpractice and wrongful death alleged to be caused by her treatment and prescriptions at her Bridgeport practice.

The lawsuits filed in Harrison County Circuit Court state that Philip Hickman, Pamela Cowger and Carrie Lynne Huff were over prescribed various medications by Milan and died in December 2010, April 2011 and November 2012, respectively.

The plaintiffs are requesting a trial by jury and are seeking “sums as will adequately compensate” for the alleged offenses.

Milan pleaded no contest to four federal drug charges in December and will be sentenced for those crimes at a later date.
