LEWISBURG, W.Va. — The two Lewisburg police officers who were shot on New Year’s Day will be back on the job next week according to Lewisburg Police Chief Tim Stover.
Stover said Thursday Lt. Jeromy Dove, patrolman Nicholas Sams and Cpl. Mike Arbaugh have all been cleared by medical professionals to return to duty.
Lt. Dove and Sams were shot after a traffic stop on Interstate 64. Cpl. Arbaugh was also on the scene and had to receive medical treatment.
The alleged shooter, Edward Campbell, 54, of Alvin, Texas, and his son, Eric Campbell, 21, of Alvin, Texas, remain jailed on charges alleging they attempted to kill the police officers.
Lt. Dove said earlier this week on MetroNews Talkline he was looking forward to getting back to work. A bullet grazed his neck. Sams suffered a grazing wound to is forehead. Many have credited the officers’ bulletproof vests with saving their lives.
All three officers have been administrative leave since the shooting.
