MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Bob Huggins takes losses hard. Always has. And after a close one like Saturday’s 74-72 loss to No. 17 Iowa State, the West Virginia coach seemed distraught over too many squandered opportunities.
Huggins saw players open in the halfcourt offense who didn’t receive the ball (clearly wishing Devin Williams had gotten more than nine shots). He saw 50-50 bounces that became Iowa State rebounds (frustrated that the Cyclones won the battle of the glass despite their two best rebounders being saddled with foul trouble). He saw WVU’s perimeter shooting woes surface to the tune of 7-of-29 from 3-point range (with some of those long-range shots hoisted too early for his liking).
“Game slippage happens when you’re unprepared,” Huggins said.
