State police have accused killer in custody in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Murder suspect Jason Curtis Boyd was arrested by state police Friday night, a day after he allegedly opened fire on an SUV and killed its driver.  Authorities say Boyd surrendered to police.

Boyd, 22, of Morgantown was charged with murder, malicious wounding and wanton endangerment charges.

Police said Boyd had been on the run since shooting into a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by Luther Hill III, 43, of Morgantown.

According to a news release from state police, Hill drove the SUV to the Marjorie Gardens apartment complex, where he and several other victims were transported to the hospital. Hill later died at the hospital.

Boyd fled the scene in a vehicle that police found abandoned in the Sabraton area.

Boyd has a criminal history in Morgantown, where police said he was arrested for obstruction in January 2012, domestic battery in March 2012 and armed robbery in November 2014.
