MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown High scored the final seven points to edge Parkersburg South 64-60 on Monday night in boys high school basketball action.
Morgantown (10-1) got 24 points from senior guard Zakeem Davis and 15 from CJ King in a matchup of top-five teams from the MetroNews Power Index.
Parkersburg South (8-2) was led by Ty Dobson’s 20 points.
“It’s going to be a battle against Parkersburg South, because they have a great program,” said Morgantown coach Dave Tallman, Jr. “Our guys have worked extremely hard. They have great chemistry and we’ve won all of our close games this year.”
The Mohigans trailed 60-57 in the game’s final two minutes before the game-clinching run.
“I think maybe everyone else in the gym thought it was over, but we didn’t,” Tallman said. “I didn’t panic and every time this year that we’ve gotten down, my guys have made plays.”
Tallman is in his first year at the helm with Morgantown.
“It used to not matter what your ranking was (going into the state tournament), but now it does,” he said. “When you get down to the state tournament, you want to get a good seed. I’m proud of our kids, they’ve really gutted out some wins. That was our fourth game in six days.”
