CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gasoline prices continue to drop across the Mountain State Wednesday with several areas reporting gas for under $2 a gallon.
“Nobody’s happier than we are,” said Jan Vineyard, executive director of OMEGA, the Oil Marketers and Grocers Association of West Virginia. “When the price of gasoline is down our credit card fees, which is one of our largest costs of doing business, are down. Our customers are happier and so are we.”
With drivers paying less at the pumps, Vineyard said they are spending a little more inside stores.
“You have more discretionary income and people are able to come in and buy things,” she said. “We’ve spent our money trying to put in wonderful fast food, ice cream, flowers, and all the things we have inside. We’re just as happy as our customers.”
Many hope $2-per-gallon becomes the new normal, and Vineyard expects the lower prices will be here awhile.
“The Energy Information Administration says they are going to stay down for now and 2015 looks very good,” Vineyard said.
