Wednesday ice and snow cause problems for drivers

MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. –– Ice and snow made for slick roads in parts of West Virginia on Wednesday morning.

This school bus was spotted Wednesday off Bakers Ridge Road near University High School in Monongalia County.

An Alberta Clipper system complicated travel from the Ohio River, through North Central West Virginia, the Northern Panhandle and stretching into the Eastern Panhandle counties.

At one point during the morning commute, a Freezing Rain Advisory was in effect for Marshall, Wetzel, Marion and Monongalia counties.

Thirteen counties were under Winter Weather Advisories from the National Weather Service on Wednesday morning with several inches of snow possible into the evening hours.

The Winter Weather Advisories continued through Wednesday afternoon in Preston, Tucker, Pendleton, Morgan, Berkeley, Jefferson, Hardy, Grant and Mineral counties.

Schools were closed in Tyler County on Wednesday. There were school delays in Marion, Monongalia and Taylor counties.

More snow could affect the Mid-Atlantic Region this weekend.
