AUGUSTA, W.Va. — Approximately 200 inmates were returned early Friday morning to the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Hampshire County.
The inmates were moved Tuesday after a HVAC problem developed at the Augusta facility. The repair work included the flushing of liquid propane from the system’s lines.
The inmates were taken to other regional jails and returned by 5:45 a.m. Friday.
“From the administrators at the jails affected, to our correctional officers and staff, all the way down to the maintenance workers, those folks worked through the night to make this a seamless process,” Regional Jail Authority Director Joe DeLong said in a news release. “I could not be more proud of the work that they performed, and the professionalism they showed is remarkable.”
The Potomac Highlands jail has the fewest number of inmates of any of the state’s 10 regional jails.
