MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown (12-2) remains No. 1 in the third release of the MetroNews Power Index for boys high school basketball.
The Mohigans recently split a pair of games with Parkersburg South and then followed that up with a 73-60 win over Martinsburg this past weekend.
South Charleston (12-1) comes in at No. 2 after losing for the first time this season — a 52-50 setback to Hurricane. Woodrow Wilson (9-1) is No. 3 — the Flying Eagles also lost for the first time, falling to Logan.
Huntington (10-2) is at No. 4 and Parkersburg South (10-2) rounds out the top five.
Westside (11-1) is the highest rated Class AA team at No. 6, followed by No. 7 Bridgeport (12-0), No. 8 Poca (12-0), No. 9 Logan (9-1) and No. 10 Fairmont Senior (13-0).
Bishop Donahue (12-1) is the highest Class A team, jumping Gilmer County (11-1) at No. 25 overall. The Bishops added significant wins over the past week over Magnolia (10-3) and Williamstown (10-2).
The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, January 27th.
This is the 28th year for the MetroNews Power Index and 30th season that MetroNews will broadcast the WVSSAC state championship games.
