Martinsburg man convicted of murdering wife

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man was found guilty Friday in the beating death of his wife.

Rickie Greenfield, Jr., was convicted Friday of first-degree murder.

A 12-member jury convicted Rickie Greenfield, Jr. of first-degree murder without mercy for using a hammer to kill his wife Jill in August 2013.

The prosecution called witnesses who pointed toward a failed marriage. The defense claimed Greenfield’s crime met the threshold for voluntary manslaughter, not murder.

Greenfield is scheduled to be sentenced April 3.
