MONTGOMERY, W.Va. — The police chief of the Kanawha County town of Cedar Grove is behind bars charged after a Tuesday morning domestic violence incident.
Montgomery police were called to the home of Aaron Roop on Third Ave. next to the Town Hall at around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
“Once officers got on the scene Mr. Roop was outside and they detained him at that time and removed a handgun from him,” said Montgomery Police Chief John Kauff. “Upon further investigation and talking to the complainant, we charged him.”
Roop was charged with two counts of domestic battery, two counts of domestic assault, and two counts of brandishing a firearm. He was taken to the Southern Regional Jail in Raleigh County.
Chief Kauff said the original call was for a domestic hostage situation.
The incident happened at Roop’s home in Montgomery where he only recently moved. Police said he got into a fight with his wife and her brother at the home. It’s not known what caused the fight.
Roop gave up without incident when police arrived.
The mayor of Cedar Grove said Roop was placed on administrative leave.
