Arson arrest made in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. — Investigators in Mercer County have charged a man with arson following a Saturday afternoon fire that destroyed an estimated $100,000 worth of property.

State Police arrested Gregory Powers, 39, hometown not provided, for allegedly burning copper illegally on Ceres Hollow Road. With the help of high winds, the blaze spread through a nearby six-car garage.

It took firefighters several hours to extinguish the flames.

Crews with the Green Valley Glenwood Fire Department, Bluewell Fire Department and East River Fire Department responded to the fire scene.
