CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Board of Education meets in special session Monday to discuss personnel issues. The board may deal with the situation at Capital High School after last week’s suspension of longtime principal Clinton Giles.
The meeting begins at noon at the board’s Elizabeth Street offices and the agenda says it’s a special meeting. The only agenda item is personnel issues. The discussion will take place behind-closed-doors in executive session.
Giles was suspended without pay last week after he was charged by Kanawha County prosecutors with the misdemeanor of failing to report a violent crime in a timely manner. A sexual assault allegedly happened at the school Jan. 26 and the report didn’t come until the next day. A 17-year-old boy has been charged with second degree sexual assault. The alleged victim is a 15-year-old girl.
Back on Friday, Giles’ attorney Jim Cagle filed a motion with Kanawha County Circuit Judge Carrie Webster for a speedy trial. Webster has yet to order Giles to court to answer to the charges filed against him.
