Chemical release contained inside Kanawha County plant

BELLE, W.Va. — DuPont reported Wednesday evening a small amount of formaldehyde had leaked at the plant in eastern Kanawha County but it was all contained in the Belle facility.

The leak came after the failure of equipment in the plant’s glycolic unit at around 4 p.m. Workers briefly sheltered in place. There was no exposure or injuries.

The state DEP said approximately 10 pounds of formaldehyde was released.
