Moundsville natural gas power plant gets approval from PSC

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Public Service Commission has granted a siting certificate for a natural gas-fired power plant near Moundsville in Marshall County.

The PSC’s Friday order means Moundsville Power LLC can begin building the 549 megawatt plant which plans to sell its electricity on the wholesale market.

The $615 million plant is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 325,000 homes. It will use the abundance of natural gas in the area along with a smaller percentage of ethane.

Plant officials hope to have it in operation by Aug. 2018.
