Campbell waives extradition to face murder charges in N.C.

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — A Texas man waived extradition Friday in Greenbrier County Circuit Court and will be returned to North Carolina to stand trial on two counts of murder.

Eric Campbell, 21, of Alvin, Texas, was arrested with his father Edward Campbell, 54, on New Year’s Day along Interstate 64 near Lewisburg.

The two face charges in West Virginia for shooting two Lewisburg police officers during the traffic stop. Both officers survived thanks to their body armor, police said.

Investigators discovered the bodies of Jerome and Dora Faulkner in the bed of the stolen pickup truck the Campbells were driving when the shootings occurred.

A North Carolina grand jury returned murder indictments against both men. The elder Campbell has already been extradited back to Granville County, North Carolina to face the murder charges.

Greenbrier County prosecutor Patrick Via said a collective decision by West Virginia law enforcement against pursuing charges in the shootings cleared the suspects to be returned to North Carolina on murder charges.

Via said his office filed a detainer to insure the Campbells would be returned to West Virginia if the out-of-state murder charges are dismissed or adjudicated.
