HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Spring Valley offensive lineman Trevor “Shaq” Stacy was one of several instate football standouts to sign with D-I programs earlier this month.
Stacy, who committed to Charlotte at the beginning of last summer, signed his letter of intent with Charlotte.
“It was the most incredible feeling, finally making it official,” Stacy said. “Not having to worry about (school) any more — I have my college paid for and a free education waiting for me. It’s just an incredible experience.”
The 49ers were Stacy’s only D-I offer during the recruiting process a year ago.
“(During the recruiting process) I had been praying for doors to be opened and doors to be closed,” Stacy said. “The day Charlotte offered, I knew that’s where I needed to go and that I didn’t need to go to any other camps.
“I was also really impressed with their facilities and how family oriented their staff was,” he continued. “They seemed like they really cared about you — they weren’t afraid to talk about Christ at all. They look after their players so well and that drew me to them.”
Tracy is listed at 6-foot-5, 305 pounds right now — Charlotte wants him to be closer to 290-295 when he eventually joins the team.
“I’m going to be doing a lot of running and working on my footwork,” he said. “The coaching staff said that they want to redshirt me, but if I go in and do well, I can earn a spot — I’m going in with that mindset.”
The complete interview with Stacy is posted at the top of the page.
