Second New Year’s Day murder defendant back in NC

OXFORD, N.C. — A Texas man was transported from West Virginia to North Carolina Thursday to face double murder charges in connection with a pair of New Year’s Day killings.

Authorities took Eric Campbell, 21, of Alvin, Texas, to the Granville County (NC) Jail. Campbell, along with his father, Robert Campbell, have already been indicted. They allegedly killed Jerome and Dora Faulkner in the couple’s home in Oxford, NC just hours before Eric Campbell was stopped by Lewisburg police on Interstate 64 on New Year’s Day afternoon near Lewisburg. A few minutes after that stop, Edward Campbell shot Lt. Jeromy Dove and patrolman Nicholas Sams. The bodies of the Faulkners were found in the back of the truck Edward Campbell was driving.

Edward Campbell waived extradition in January. He and his son are charged with first degree murder, first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon, second degree arson, two counts of cruelty to animals, larceny of a motor vehicle, identity theft and financial card theft.

The Lewisburg officers were injured but have since returned to work.
