PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Parkersburg man was taken into custody Monday evening after he allegedly used a large knife to try and rob a Parkersburg pharmacy.
Police were called to the Rite Aid on 7th Street at just before 6 p.m. Monday and found Joseph Shuman, 37, brandishing a large knife near the pharmacy counter demanding the pharmacist to give him prescription drugs.
An officer confronted Shuman and told him to drop the 8-inch knife. He did so after a brief standoff.
Shuman allegedly told the staff he would hurt them and their families if they didn’t give him drugs.
Shuman is charged with armed robbery and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
