2,000 customers in Boone County still without full water service

WHARTON, W.Va. — West Virginia American Water Company said Tuesday evening 2,000 of the company’s customers in Boone County were still having water problems because of widespread water main breaks and customer demand.

The company said customers in Ashford, Bob White, Clothier, Gordon, Julian, Nellis, Hewett , Van and Wharton would continue to have problems with low water pressure or water outages until a series of tanks are repressurized.

The company has set up public water distribution sites at the Racine VFD, Van VFD and Wharton-Barrett VFD.

“We continue to ask all customers in our Kanawha Valley system to limit their non-essential water use to aid these efforts,” West Virginia American Water president Jeff McIntyre said in a news release. “You may not understand how limiting your water use in Charleston, Cross Lanes or Chelyan could help restore water to citizens in Boone County, but the interconnectivity of a water system creates distinct ties between the actions of customers all across the system.”

The company said it restored service to several thousand customers in Charleston, South Charleston, North Charleston and Clendenin.
