MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown (18-3) jumps back to the No. 1 spot in the seventh edition of the MetroNews Power Index for boys high school basketball.
The Mohigans on Tuesday night defeated Parkersburg South 73-38. South Charleston (19-2), which fell over the weekend to Capital 62-38, drops to No. 2. Parkersburg South (17-3) is No. 3, followed by Capital (17-4) at No. 4.
In Class AA, Bridgeport and Poca are the highest rated teams and only unbeatens in the state as No. 5 Bridgeport handed Fairmont Senior its first loss of the year on Tuesday night 57-46. Poca, at 20-0, is at No. 6 overall.
The highest rated Class A team remains Greater Beckley Christian (18-2) at No. 16, while Williamstown (18-2), Wheeling Central (20-2) and Bishop Donahue (17-2) are all just behind GBC in the overall ratings.
The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, February 24th.
This is the 28th year for the MetroNews Power Index and 30th season that MetroNews will broadcast the WVSSAC state championship games.
