Settlement approved in MSU case

CHARLESTON, W.Va — A three-judge panel said Thursday as many as 19,000 former students at Mountain State University could be part of the class that benefits from a $17 million settlement approved by the panel Thursday.

The Beckley-based school closed in 2013 after losing its accreditation and former students sued. Those former students who file claims will get some of the money based on how many credit hours they had that did not transfer to another college.

The settlement amount includes insurance money and funds from the soon-to-be-completed purchase of the Beckley campus by West Virginia University.
