Snow, gas leak cause fire at Wyoming County school

BAILEYSVILLE, W.Va. — Classes are expected to resume Tuesday at a Wyoming County school following a fire early Monday morning.

The blaze damaged the gymnasium at Baileysville Elementary and Middle School. The flames did not spread to the rest of the building. The fire was caused by a gas leak in the rooftop HVAC unit. The leak is believed to have been caused by the heavy weight of melting snow.

The fire took place before students got to school Monday because Wyoming County schools were on a two-hour delay.

The damage estimate is into the thousands of dollars.
